Fieldnote Sound is a small loudspeaker company in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We're three people: an acoustics engineer who spent a decade at a large studio-monitor company, a cabinetmaker, and an electronics designer who used to build guitar amps.
We started in 2022 because we wanted a speaker for a normal apartment that didn't require a rack of equipment, didn't sound thin, and could be fixed when something eventually failed. The Fieldnote One is the result of three years of prototypes, the last year spent mostly on the room correction and on getting the paper cone right.
Cabinets are cut and veneered in our shop on Van Brunt Street. Amplifier boards are assembled by a contract manufacturer in New Hampshire, and every pair is tested and tuned here before it ships. We keep parts for ten years and publish the service manual.
